It was the vision of one woman that led to the establishment of the ?rst
children’s home in South Africa. This woman, a widow, saw the need
of orphaned children for a refuge of their own and convinced the governor
at the Cape, the Second Earl of Caledon, to give her permission to build
a home for orphans. This act of faith two hundred years ago started a tradition
of ordinary people showing they care for the children of our nation.
